DANE COUNTY SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL COORDINATOR

The Wisconsin Bike Fed is seeking a Bike/Walk Safety Coordinator for Dane County Safe Routes to School program.

 

Status: Part Time: Limited Term Employment

Rate: $15/hr. Hours may vary throughout season but averages 20 hours/week.

 

This position is funded through a WisDOT grant for the remainder of 2019. The right candidate may be willing and able to work on next grant application and pursue other funding sources to continue work beyond that. The Safe Routes to School programs are with strong partnerships with the four, Madison Metropolitan School District community schools. Projects focus heavily on increasing access to active transportation for children and families with a health equity lens. Instructors are responsible for supplying their own transportation (Bikes Rule!). The Bike Fed will provide paid training sessions. Hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and Saturdays, varies week to week.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach curriculum based education classes at various Dane County sites

  • Lead groups of youth on neighborhood rides and walks

  • Coordinate with schools communities on bike/walk initiatives

  • Serve as a role model in safe biking and walking for youth

  • Assess school area for impediments to walking or biking to school

  • Assist with administrative work and partner with SRTS Lead Coordinator

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children

  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills

  • Value working with diversity of people and team teaching methods.

  • Value providing services with equity

  • Ability to work on own and on a team

  • Spanish speaking/writing skills

  • Social Media/Computer graphic skills beneficial, but not required

  • MUST pass background check

ADDITIONAL RELATED JOB OPPORTUNITY: UNITY RIDE LEADER

 

There is a possibility that the right candidate for this position may be combined with another grant to do Unity Rides in Madison’s Northside Neighborhoods. This job would organize and be lead contact for 3 ride events this summer.

 

Status: Part Time: Limited Term Employment April-September 2019

Rate: $15/hr. Hours may vary throughout season but averages 12 hours/week.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate ride logistics

  • Work with partners to promote rides

  • Gather data and feedback from ride participants

  • Recruit and Coordinate volunteers

  • Attend JUST Bikes Coalition meetings

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills

  • Value working with diversity of people

  • Social Media/Computer graphic skills beneficial

  • Fulfill project goals with approximately 200 hours of billable time.
